paper.li is a service that lets you read your Twitter/Facebook stream in a
newspaper format. You’ll find information from tweets neatly arranged in different sections, complete with pictures and videos, just like you read in a newspaper.
This has exciting potential for geography, business studies, art.....

variety of different ways, and if we employ teaching strategies which address
this variety.

Some of the things Brett talked about:
Kids know right and wrong, but they lack life experience to make good decisions. They have to have good reasons to do the right thing online...other people might find out / I might get hurt / I might get in a lot of trouble. There are a lot of triggers for cyberbullying that didn't exist before the internet - the smallest kid in school can now bully the biggest kid, anywhere, anytime.
Typically, even good students who wouldn't hurt anyone face to face can be sucked into thinking they have power and control when they are at home (where most internet access applies).
The internet produces a feeling of "cockpit isolation" - the pilot can release a 'bomb' with one button (enter / send) and feels anonymous and powerful.
Kids think what they see on the screen is real. Parents and teachers need to get involved early to teach young children safe internet practices. It is a myth that kids know more than parents and parents tend to wait too long to get involved - then wonder why they lock heads with their teenagers
The same social rules apply on the internet as face to face. If you wouldn't do it face to face, don't do it on the internet.

Camstudio is an open source software program for making basic screen recording tutorials. I have trialled v.2.6 beta and it works fine on Toshiba laptop in both XP and Windows7. You may need to have a play with compression settings (I'm using cinepak codec by radius) and hotkeys (I've set F8 to begin recording and ctrl w for stop, and have set minimise program on start recording), though I had no problems after installation on Windows7. http://camstudio.org/
